The Nuances of Fact-Checking: Techniques for Discovering the Truth — Rumor ScannerConducts Training at Khaborer Kagoj Office

Dhaka, November 17, 2025 — Rumor Scanner, in collaboration with Khaborer Kagoj,
successfully organized an in-person training session titled “The Nuances of Fact-Checking:
Techniques for Discovering the Truth.” The session was held at the Khaborer Kagoj office
from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., aiming to strengthen journalists’ and newsroom professionals’
capacity to identify misinformation through practical verification techniques.

A total of 14 participants attended the training, including 11 male and 3 female members.
Among them, 10 were journalists from Khaborer Kagoj’s newsroom. The remaining
attendees included senior officials of Khaborer Kagoj, including the Editor, Mostafa Kamal,
Khalid Farooki (Executive Editor), Abdullah Al Mamun (Chief Reporter), and Atia Sultana
(Head of Brand & Event).

The program was conducted by Rumor Scanners Research Analyst Aminul Islam, who
guided the session activities, verification challenges, digital manipulation trends, and the
essential role of fact-checking in modern journalism. Participants received hands-on
guidance on identifying misleading content, understanding sources, and applying
structured verification workflows in daily reporting.

The session was led by Md Sakiuzzaman, Co-founder and COO of Rumor Scanner, who also
shared valuable insights by coordinating practical exercises and participant engagement.
Md Rakibul Islam facilitated the training. Their combined efforts helped enrich the
discussion and provided attendees with a clearer understanding of fact-checking tools and
strategies.

Participants expressed that the session enhanced their confidence in detecting false
information and contributed to improving newsroom-level accuracy practices. This
collaborative training was implemented under the “Strengthening Resilience Against
Disinformation’’ project and reflects Rumor Scanner and Daily Khaborer Kagoj’s shared
commitment to strengthening the media’s capacity in combating disinformation and
upholding ethical journalism.
